Given the diversity of the sectors we represent and audiences with whom we engage, British Lime Association (BLA), MPA Cement and the British Marine Aggregate Producers Association (BMAPA) publish separate sustainability reports. MPA The Concrete Centre publishes an annual Concrete Industry Sustainability Report.
The MPA Sustainable Development Report 2019 which covers a range of data from 2018/19 and is aligned with MPA's 7 main strategic priorities and the corresponding objectives and targets. Despite challenging market conditions, not helped by Brexit uncertainty, this annual snapshot confirms that performance was particularly strong in the production of recycled and secondary aggregates, transportation of aggregates and cement by rail freight, and habitat creation and tree planting. The period also saw a re-focussing of MPA's health & safety activities on mitigating the 6 high consequence hazards, 'The Fatal 6'.
The 2020 British Lime Association (BLA) Sustainable Development Report sets out the sector’s performance during 2019 but highlights that 2020 has been a year of significant change and we will not know the impact on performance until 2021 when data is available. BLA Members continued operations during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, as lime is an essential product for the provision of safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater and for several important manufacturing industries, including steel and plastics that are used to produce goods critical to combating COVID-19. Lime is also used to clean emissions from waste incinerators, energy from waste plants and other large combustion plants.
The BMAPA Sustainable Development report which presents marine aggregate market and performance data from 2018, details the contribution of marine sand and gravel resources to the overall demand for construction aggregate across England and Wales. The slight increases in landings reported for marine supplies alongside the majority of other sources of construction aggregate, coincide with low levels of growth reported across the economy as a whole.
The MPA Cement 2019 Sustainable Development Report is based on data provided by MPA Cement's five member companies who together supplied 78% of the cement consumed in the UK in 2018.
MPA The Concrete Centre's twelfth annual report report presents the concrete industry’s sustainability performance in 2018. The data covers the manufacture of concrete and its constituent materials. The information is collected through survey responses from companies supplying an estimated 80% of concrete used in the UK.
The Mineral Products Association (MPA) is the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries.
